On February 16, 2018, Los Angeles International Airport will congratulate Lithuania with a centennial and for the first time will be lit in the colors of Lithuania's flag. Visitors and guests of one of the busiest airports in the world will see LAX Gateway Pylons glowing in yellow, green and red from the sunset of February 16 until the sunrise of February 17.
"City of Los Angeles is joining the celebration of the restored and modern Lithuania. It is both an important simbolical gesture and a nice gift for approxmatelly 10.000 Lithuanians who live here" - says Darius Gaidys, Consul General in Los Angeles.
13th of January in Lithuania is commemorated as the Day of the Defenders of Freedom. On the tragic 13th of January in 1991, freedom of the Republic of Lithuania was defended against the brutal Soviet aggression. It was the day of an immense sacrifice and unity. The Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in Los Angeles lit the candles in a memory of those who lost their lives. This initiative is organized by the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania.

16 years ago, on 11 September 2001, the United States of America was struck by the largest terrorist attack. Today we remember all victims of this tragic event. Lithuania maintains solidarity with a strategic partner United States of America and continues to consistently support the efforts of international coalition in the fight against the terrorism.

On 6 July 2017 Lithuania's Statehood Day was celebrated across the world. Consulate General of Lithuania in Los Angeles invited the members of community to gather and sing Lithuania's National Anthem, "Tautiška giesmė" in Santa Monica Beach, at the end of a legendary "Route 66". The event was attended by Jonas Kazlauskas, former Head Coach of Lithuania men's basketball team. Lithuanian community in San Francisco also joined the celebration and gathered near Stanford University, Palo Alto.

Congratulations to Lithuanian-American writer Ruta Sepetys (Rūta Šepetys), who received the Carnegie Medal for her novel "Salt to the Sea" on 19 June. The CILIP Carnegie honors outstanding writing for children and young people.
77 years ago, on 15 June 1940, the USSR invaded the independent Republic of Lithuania. United States condemned the occupation and refused to recognize annexation. Lithuanian people never have up - active resistance (Partisan war) continued until 1953, they pursued active diplomacy, showed civil disobedience, and finally declared the Restoration of Lithuanian Independence on 11 March 1990.
