On February 16, 2018, Los Angeles International Airport will congratulate Lithuania with a centennial and for the first time will be lit in the colors of Lithuania's flag. Visitors and guests of one of the busiest airports in the world will see LAX Gateway Pylons glowing in yellow, green and red from the sunset of February 16 until the sunrise of February 17.
"City of Los Angeles is joining the celebration of the restored and modern Lithuania. It is both an important simbolical gesture and a nice gift for approxmatelly 10.000 Lithuanians who live here" - says Darius Gaidys, Consul General in Los Angeles.
13th of January in Lithuania is commemorated as the Day of the Defenders of Freedom. On the tragic 13th of January in 1991, freedom of the Republic of Lithuania was defended against the brutal Soviet aggression. It was the day of an immense sacrifice and unity. The Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in Los Angeles lit the candles in a memory of those who lost their lives. This initiative is organized by the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania.
Jurgis Didžiulis visited the Consulate General of Lithuania in Los Angeles and presented his project "To Be LT" - in search of global Lithuanian identity. It is a community-building pilgrimage that explores and documents what it means “to be Lithuanian” to those living abroad far from Lithuania.

On 6 July 2017 Lithuania's Statehood Day was celebrated across the world. Consulate General of Lithuania in Los Angeles invited the members of community to gather and sing Lithuania's National Anthem, "Tautiška giesmė" in Santa Monica Beach, at the end of a legendary "Route 66". The event was attended by Jonas Kazlauskas, former Head Coach of Lithuania men's basketball team. Lithuanian community in San Francisco also joined the celebration and gathered near Stanford University, Palo Alto.
Congratulations to Lithuanian-American writer Ruta Sepetys (Rūta Šepetys), who received the Carnegie Medal for her novel "Salt to the Sea" on 19 June. The CILIP Carnegie honors outstanding writing for children and young people.

On 28 February Consul General of Lithuania Darius Gaidys participated in the opening ceremony of a new Los Angeles Sister Cities Plaza in San Pedro together with Mr. Joe Buscaino, Los Angeles City Councilman. The flag of Kaunas City was raised as well. Cities of Kaunas and Los Angeles signed partnership agreement in 1991.

Consulate General of Lithuania in Los Angeles participated again in the National dictation competition on 25 February 2017. Competition took place in Los Angeles and Portland (Oregon).
National dictation competition is organized by the Civil Thought Institute (Pilietinės minties institutas) together with longstanding partners of the project - news portal DELFI, Lithuanian National Radio and Television, Lithuanian Post, Ministry of Education and Science of Lithuania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, State Commission of the Lithuanian Language, Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania.
The patron of the project is H.E. Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of Lithuania.
