Performer Jurgis Didžiulis starts his project "To Be LT" in U.S. West Coast
Jurgis Didžiulis visited the Consulate General of Lithuania in Los Angeles and presented his project "To Be LT" - in search of global Lithuanian identity. It is a community-building pilgrimage that explores and documents what it means “to be Lithuanian” to those living abroad far from Lithuania.
„I used to say I was half-Colombian and half-Lithuanian. But now it is clear to me that I am both fully Colombian and fully Lithuanian" - explains Jurgis Didžiulis. According to project initiator, Lithuania is not just a territory with borders. First of all, it is people who create, and cherrish traditions everywhere in the world.
"By visiting Lithuanians in many different countries we want to demonstrate that Lithuania is in fact one big community. The time has come to sit down at one table and get acquainted, " said Jurgis Didžiulis.
Darius Gaidys, Consul General of Lithuania in Los Angeles invited all members of Lithuanian communities and guests to visit "Lithuanian Days" this weekend (30 September - 1 October". This annual event is organized by Los Angeles Lithuanian Community since 1986. It celebrates Lithuanian pride, heritage, culture, art and history.
"Come and share your stories, regardless of your age or occupation. The better we know each other, the stronger we become as a community"- invited Consul General.
Visitors of "Lithuanian Days" will be able to meet Jurgis Didžiulis at the booth of Consulate General of Lithuania on Saturday and Sunday. On 10 AM Sunday he will meet the students and community of St. Casimir Lithuanian School, and will host an interactive seminar about Lithuanian identity at 1 PM. Next week Jurgis Didžiulis will visit Lithuanian communities in San Francisco and Reno (Nevada).
