Consulate General team at events in support of Ukraine

On February 22-23, Consul General Sandra Brikaitė and the team of the Consulate General in Los Angeles participated at events in support of Ukraine.

On February 22, the Lithuanian community organized a run in Santa Monica to honor Lithuanian independence defenders of January 13, 1991, and the defenders of Ukrainian freedom. Originally scheduled for January, the event was postponed due to the Los Angeles fires. Consul General S. Brikaitė addressed the gathered Lithuanian and Ukrainian communities, stating, “Lithuania understands what it means to fight for independence. That is why we stand with Ukraine—because their fight is our fight.”

Over 40 participants joined the 5 km (3 mile) run or 1.6 km (1 mile) walk. At the finish line, they received commemorative medals and enjoyed Lithuanian mineral water and snacks.

On February 23, the Consulate General’s team, along with the members of Lithuanian community, attended the third anniversary commemoration of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in front of Santa Monica City Hall. The event was organized by the local Ukrainian community and organizations.

Consul General S. Brikaitė emphasized, “words are not enough. Ukraine needs more than solidarity—it needs action. It needs weapons to defend its people, sanctions that truly weaken the aggressor, and unwavering support from every nation that values freedom. In Lithuania, supporting Ukraine is not just a government effort – it’s a cause embraced by ordinary people. This year, Lithuanians are uniting again for the RADAROM! fundraising campaign for drones and anti-drone systems that are critical tools for Ukraine’s defense. Over 5 million euros has already been collected by the people today.”

The event also saw participation from heads and representatives of other EU consulates general, members of the US Congress, and officials from the California and Los Angeles city governments.
