Conversation about prof. Gimbutas in Los Angeles
On November 21st in Little Lithuania, Los Angeles Lithuanian community had a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the work and personality of Marija Gimbutas - a world-famous Lithuanian scientist and professor at the University of California.
Lithuanian Institute of History archaeologist and researcher Dr. Agnė Čivilytė, who at the moment is visiting California and researching Prof. Gimbutas' scientific legacy, kindly dedicated her Sunday afternoon for conversation with Los Angeles Lithuanians in the commemoration of Prof. Gimbutas' 100th birthday (1921-1994).
During the meeting, Dr. Čivilytė spoke of the works of Marija Gimbutas, presented scientist’s insights and hypotheses, and explained the importance of the professor's scientific accomplishments in archeology. In the second part of the meeting, the listeners were able to informally chat with the guest, ask their questions or share their memories of studying with Prof. Gimbutas and knowing her in person.
Agnė Čivilytė is working at the University of Buffalo in New York under the U.S. Fulbright scholarship for the next seven months.
