Documentary film “Rūta“ was screened in Los Angeles

On November 3, 2018, the Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuanian in Los Angeles in partnership with the Los Angeles chapter of the Lithuanian World Youth Organization organized the screening of the documentary film “Rūta” to the audience of Los Angeles. The Olympic Gold Medalist, a swimmer and a symbol of today's Lithuania Rūta Meilutytė presented the movie, shared her story and answered many questions from the audience. The attendees thanked Rūta Meilutytė for inspiration and sharing not only victorious, but also painful moments of her life.

“This story is not only about an athlete’s training process, but also about the profound human issues – ups and downs, love and hatred, depression, loneliness, friendship, family,” – said Darius Gaidys, the Consul General of Lithuania in Los Angeles. He thanked Rūta Meilutytė for her bravery, openess, sincerity, honesty and welcoming smile to all those who attended the screening.

Amongst the large crowd of Rūta Meilutytė’s supporters was Jonas Valančiūnas, a famous Lithuanian basketball player from the Toronto Raptors.

“Rūta“, by Ronaldas Burožis and Rokas Darulis, was premiered in Lithuania in March 2018. The movie was nominated for the best documentary film of the year at Lithuanian National Film Awards “Silver Crane 2018”.
