Historic weekend with Lithuanian books in Los Angeles
On 16-17 January the Consulate General of Lithuania in Los Angeles organized an educational project "Historical weekend with a book." Author Dalia Cidzikaitė and publisher Sigita Pūkienė met with the members of Lithuanian community in Los Angeles and presented a book “We Thought That We Could Come Back Soon: 18 Conversations about the Flight to the West in 1940-1944” (Original title - "Manėm, kad greit grįšim. 18 pokalbių apie pasitraukimą į Vakarus 1940–1944“).
Participants of the event listened to the excerpts from the book and authentic audio archives.
Consul General of Lithuania Darius Gaidys emphasized that this project is particularly relevant for Lithuanian Americans: "This is a part of your own history, which has become high-profile in Lithuania. This is a book about the experience of Lithuanians during the WW2 and their involuntary and unexpected fate.
In 2014 authors of the book Dalia Stakytė-Anysienė, Laima Petrauskaitė-Vanderstoep and Daliai Cidzikaitė received the Patriot Award “for the difficult historical memory without interpretations”.
On 16 January Dalia Cidzikaitė ir Sigita Pūkienė met with the students of Lithuanian St. Casimir Saturday School in Los Angeles and spoke about a modern Lithuanian mythology and original historical books.
