Hollywood actress Ruta Lee has her Lithuanian citizenship reinstated
On February 18th the Minister of Interior signed a decree regarding the reinstatement of Lithuanian citizenship to famous Hollywood actress Ruta Lee. One of the most successful and worldwide known actors of Lithuanian descent Ruta Lee has always been proud of her Lithuanian roots.
“Ruta Lee has become a role model on how one can be proud of Lithuanian heritage, support local Lithuanian communities and their work. I am delighted that the team of the Consulate General of Lithuania in Los Angeles contributed to the citizenship reinstatement process for Ruta Lee, who sincerely and proudly speaks of Lithuania and inspires us all,” – said Consul General Darius Gaidys.
Ruta Lee was born to an Lithuanian immigrant family in Canada and later became a citizen of the United States of America.
According to the current Lithuanian laws, citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who were exiled from the occupied Republic of Lithuania or left before March 11, 1990 and their descendants have an indefinite right to reinstate citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania.
